A damaged air sack, cell or chamber causes
the embryo to die after app. one week.
There is a way to ‘fix’ this, if the damage isn’t
too bad of course. Due to shocks during
transportation the vulnerable fleeces inside the
egg came loose. When the yolk is floating as well,
the eggs can’t be saved.
The air sack should be located on top of the egg, the flat
side. There are several incubating systems in which the eggs are positioned flat laying or standing upside down with the tip down. Since the air sack should be on top, the damaged egg should be incubated for the first week with the tip down and not turned.
Perhaps, due to the enforcement of the growing blood vessels the fleeces attach more firmly. After a week the egg can be replaced a bit to one side so the embryo won’t stick to the inner fleece. This way you turn the egg very gentle, keeping the air sack at its place, only rotating around its axis.
